Reflected Light

Reflected Light
Check and Log:

Page from sketch book
For this project I have been looking into light sources and identifying the difference between primary light sources and reflected light. I didn't find it very difficult to distinguish between cast shadow from and reflected light as the two were separated by their positions and directions of the lines and shades drawn.

However in some areas I found that their was indistinctness in where shadows/light and the tones of the object were the same. This caused difficulty for the viewer to understand the form or shape of the object. For this reason I applied darker hatching over areas where the shadow and tone of the object were the same and so subtly adding a darker shade so as to see the contours of the objects. In other places where the areas were so light it was difficult to distinguish between objects, I added quick marks around the objects so that they become easier to see.

When shading I had to think carefully about the direction of my marks. I realised that the light areas and shadows had to follow the direction of the contours of the object. For this reason all my strokes are in line with the object shape, unless there were shadows of other objects cast into an object. in this instance I shaded in the shadow and then applied light hatching over the shadow in the direction of object contours.
